COTABATO CITY — Several Members of the Parliament asked colleagues to pass a bill that would allocate P50-million to purchase additional oxygen tanks in the region.

Ziaur-Rahman Adiong, Atty. Nabil Tan and Atty. Ubaida Pacasem presented the measure before the plenary to assist hospitals in the region experiencing scarcity of oxygen, ventilators and other supplies due to increasing Covid-19 patients.

The regional hospitals in BARMM, notably the Amai Pakpak Medical Center, have indicated that they already reached critical to full bed capacity due to the influx of CoVid patients, according to Deputy Speaker MP Adiong.

The Bangsamoro region had 9,862 total cases as of this month. 527 infections are active, 9,103 have recovered, and 232 died.

“It is on this premise that we are submitting this proposed measure for consideration. Once passed, P50 million will be allocated to purchase additional oxygen tanks, which shall be distributed to the provinces of BARMM. This will serve as a buffer stock should there be shortages of supply and save more lives in the near future,” said MP Adiong during his sponsorship speech.

He appealed that the committees to which the bill will be referred will provide consideration to deliberate the request for additional oxygen tanks quickly.

Deputy Majority Floor Leader Atty. Paisalin Tago and Minority Floor Leader Atty. Laisa Alamia joined his appeal to the committees.

“In view of the urgency of that bill, it is highly suggested that the committee on health, the committee on finance should immediately conduct a committee hearing for the purpose, we know for a fact that there is a shortage of oxygen…so we need to act on this as soon as possible,” Atty. Tago seconded.

The legislation was referred to the Committee on Health and Committee on Finance, Budget and Management. (Publication and Media Relations Division)
