Biosketch of MP Said M. Shiek

Said Manggis Shiek is a Meranaw native of Lanao del Norte. He was born on August 24, 1957 in Balo-i, Lanao del Norte. He has 18 children. He is an alumnus of MSU- LNCAT in Marawi City. He is a regular member of the Central Committee of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). He was the President of the Union of Overseas Bangsamoro (UOB) in 2001 to 2002. In 2003, he worked for the Security Aspect i.e. the established security mechanisms of the GPH – MILF Peace Process being highlighted by his appointment as the Chairman of the MILF Coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities (CCCH) or Ceasefire Committee in 2010 to 2013. In 2013 during the administration of former President Benigno Simeon Aquino III, he was appointed as one of the members of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC), the body that crafted the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL).

In mid 2016, he became a member of the MILF Peace Implementing Panel and chaired the MILF Central Committee’s Human Resource and Economic Development Committee. In 2017, he was again appointed as one of the 21 members of the expanded Bangsamoro Transition Commission under President Rodrigo Duterte administration. On February 22, 2019, President Duterte again appointed him as one of the 80 members of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) Parliament. From August 2020 to February 2022, he served as Deputy Minister of Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. Shiek also leads the United Bangsamoro Justice Party’s Provincial Organizing Task Force for Lanao del Norte from 2020
