COTABATO CITY – The proposed Parliament Bill No. 53  or Bangsamoro Sustainable Development Board Act of 2020 was introduced to the plenary on Tuesday afternoon. 

It was filed by Member of Parliament Abdulraof Macacua. 

The measure proposed to create a Bangsamoro Sustainable Development Board which would ensure “the integration and harmonization of economic, social, and environmental considerations as vital dimensions of sustainable development policy and practice in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region.”

Said Board is formed to protect, promote, and maximize economic resources within the region. It encourages youth, women, and non-Moro indigenous people to advocate the agendas set in the proposal. 

Among the powers and functions of the Board include developing a framework, determining regulations, and assessing the implemented programs and policies that preserve the Bangsamoro environment and its resources.

The regulating body has the authority to probe alleged anomalies concerning the operation and execution of its projects.

The Board will be made up of representatives from the National Government and the Bangsamoro Government chaired by the Minister of the Environment, Natural Resources and Energy (MENRE).

Other members of the Board are:

Executive Secretary of its equivalent position;
Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform;
Minister of Interior and Local Government;
Minister of Science and Technology;
Minister of Trade, Investment and Tourism’
Minister of Indigenous People’s Affairs;
Bangsamoro Youth Commission;
Bangsamoro Women Commission; and
