October 16, 2023

COTABATO CITY – A measure seeking to convert the Iranon District Hospital in Parang, Maguindanao del Norte, into a provincial hospital has been filed by Bangsamoro lawmakers to accommodate a larger number of constituencies.

Parliament Bill No. 246, or the Iranon Provincial Hospital Act of 2023, was jointly introduced by MPs Atty. Ubaida Pacasem, Suharto Esmael, Matarul Estino, Abdullah Hashim, Dr. Hashemi Dilangalen, and Marjanie Macasalong.

The bill proposes the conversion of the Iranon District Hospital into a 200-bed provincial hospital, which will operate under the direct supervision and control of the Ministry of Health.

It mandates that the hospital’s workforce, including doctors, nurses, support personnel, professional healthcare services, and facilities,

will be increased and upgraded in line with the increase in bed capacity.

With the establishment of the Iranon Provincial Hospital, healthcare services will become accessible to far-reaching communities in Maguindanao del Sur and even extend to areas in Lanao del Sur, promoting better healthcare quality.

Through its approved annual budget, the MOH will initially provide the necessary funding to support the increase in bed capacity of the hospital.

The entire budgetary requirements of the IPH for its operation and the upgrading of its facilities and services will be included in the annual General Appropriations Act of the Bangsamoro for the following year of its enactment.

Since the transition period in 2019, the Bangsamoro Parliament has enacted six hospital bills to improve healthcare accessibility for BARMM constituents. (LTAIS-Public Information, Publication, and Media Relations Division)
